SL Dispatches: Grace Under Pressure

There is little doubt that the economic downturn and r.l health issues are affecting people online. This week alone saw the sad 'retirement 'from SecondLife or two of its most inspirational contributors, Baron Grayson, creator of Templum Obscurum, Relic and Nameless Isle, and his friend and co-creator in many ventures, Sue Stonebinder of Intempesta Nox. Circumstances have dictated that they sell their sims for several reasons and there are many residents saddened by the loss of such great SL Citizens.

Sue has not just inspired many to create and participate in SL life but has also contributed greatly in r/l by establishing a r/l-s/l crossover in charitable giving through the Giving Tree based at her sim which invited residents to sponsor a family or individual in lesser privileged circumstances. Her builds, and in particular the careful and meticulous design of her pianos and music boxes in-world are not only exquisite collectables, but also wonderfully interactive.

The Baron of course, is a man of great vision with the ability to encourage and collaborate with others in bringing the lost amazing worlds to fruition. I know that without the inspiration of Relic I would not have taken the courage to rezz that first prim. Of course many could also attribute their addiction to building and textures directly to him also *laughs*.

Both opened their sims and their creations to everyone. They asked nothing and gave freely. The Baron and Sue are inarguably two of the most generous and creative people in SL. The epitomise the best of SL and some of the best aspects of humanity.

In true Baron and Sue spirit, they are aware that an abrupt departure would be simply 'not on' and have developed a clear strategy to wind down their builds and stores over time. They recognise that their friends, collaborators and group members need time to also attend to things relating to their leaving SL and their planned exit strategy has clearly defined stages that end in December 09.

This shows great consideration and grace. Two words that spring to mind when thinking of these two great SL Citizens.

We wish them the best of luck and good health and prosperity in this next phase of their lives. Those that know them and have enjoyed the beauty and grace they have given to their fellow citzens with miss them greatly. They touched many lives all over the world.
